Full And Partial Scholarships For D.Phil. (Doctor Of Philosophy) Study
University of Oxford - Oxford University Computing Laboratory

The Computing Laboratory invites applications for full and partial scholarships for D.Phil. (Doctor of Philosophy) study to commence in October 2010.

The Computing Laboratory has several competitive scholarships available for full-time doctoral (D.Phil.) study to commence in October 2010. The department offers a vibrant research environment, supported by £30M of research grants from research councils, EU and industry. In the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), 80% of our research was judged 4* (world leading) and 3* (internationally excellent). Applications are invited in the following areas:

Computational Biology: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

Foundations, Logic and Structures: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

Information Systems: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

Programming Languages: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

Software Engineering: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

Verification: [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.]

The scholarships typically include full or partial support towards college and university fees, as well as maintenance of at least £13,290 per annum. Several types of scholarships are available, which carry nationality restrictions. EPSRC DTA scholarships are of three and a half years' duration and are available to home students or EU students who studied in the UK for three years previously. Partial (fees only) DTA awards are available to EU students, with the possibility of applying for top-up funding from the department. Clarendon scholarships are for three years and are open to all international (non-UK/non-EU) students. Departmental awards are typically partial and carry no nationality restrictions. In addition, a broad range of scholarships are administered centrally at Oxford, for example China-Oxford and Scatcherd European (nationality and course restrictions apply).

Applications are made online and information about how to apply, including requirements and links to the online prospectus, colleges and university funding, is available from:

Scholarship applicants are strongly encouraged to apply before 20 November 2009, and by 22 January 2010 at the latest. To be considered for a scholarship, candidates must have been accepted for doctoral study at Oxford. Applicants are asked to consider how their research interests correspond with the existing expertise in the department, and are asked to identify and approach potential supervisors directly, or enquire through the email address given below. Due to the high volume of applications we receive you should aim to submit your application two weeks before these deadlines. The scholarships are highly competitive.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed and decisions are expected between March and May 2010.

When applying for these studentships, please quote the following studentship codes:

10-COMP-DEPT-WEB (if you are applying from ComLab web pages) or

10-COMP-DEPT-JOBS (if you are applying via [pranala luar disembunyikan, sila masuk atau daftar.])

The Laboratory also offers project D.Phil. studentships which are advertised on an ad hoc basis as they become available; they are advertised here.
